Having just learned of this unique activity from the Discovery Channel this morning, I'm shouting out to Canoelover to see if he would care to comment on Interpretive Freestyle Canoeing.
Trying to spread some sunshine,

Don't wanna waste electrons on a blog posting.
Paddling isn't a sport, it's a lifestyle. Canoeing isn't a lifestyle, it's a religion. Freestyle Canoeing isn't a religion, it's a cult.
It's the sort of cult where the judges are the same every year, a chosen, self-appointed few who really like being important.
It's the sort of cult where everyone gets a ribbon. Even at national championships.
To paraphrase Macbeth it's an activity that struts and frets its hour upon the water, and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of splashing and bad music, signifying nothing.
Not that I have any strong feelings about it.
No one (and I mean no one) loves paddling solo canoes as much as I do (hence the name of my blog). I even sometimes will do some of the "moves" that freestyle canoeists use, except we don't call them moves. I don't do "moves" called a "double cross post" or a "static axle" (yes, those are "real" terms). What I will do is a draw stroke to avoid hitting a rock, but I don't do it with a boombox of Andrea Bocelli music in the background.
It is my hope that this activity will be quietly ignored by the paddling public, and actively ignored by the non-paddling public.
